BERKELEY-Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato announced today that the small borough of South Seaside Park has filed to leave the large township and become part of Seaside Park.

From SSSP: The Borough of Seaside Park, located on the Barnegat Barrier Island in Ocean County, New Jersey, was incorporated in 1898. Seaside Park is a small town of only 0.77 square miles with a year-round population of just over 2,200 residents. With almost two miles of shoreline on the Atlantic Ocean, the borough’s main industry is summer tourism. Seaside Park is bordered on the north by the Borough of Seaside Heights and its amusement arcades, rides and boardwalk. To the south is South Seaside Park, which is an unincorporated section of Berkeley Township, and Island Beach State Park.

Approximately 1,500 residents live in the borough.

We will publish an update with details on Monday.
