HS WRESTLING: Colts Neck Beats Brick Memorial 42-31

The fifth-seeded Colts Neck High School wrestling team had five pins Monday on its way to a 42-31 win over fourth-seeded Brick Memorial in the first round of the NJSIAA Group 4 Central Tournament.

Xhelal Lleshi, Dyon Womack, Benjamin Sammarco, Michael Jannucci and Steven Barsky had pins for the Cougars. Joey King won by forfeit at 113 pounds and Aaron Royle won by disqualification over Ron Hopping at 182 pounds when Hopping was ruled to have slammed Royle to the mat in the third period of their match. Hopping was leading, 8-1, at the time.

Gianni Ghione earned the only pin of the meet for the Mustangs. Nick Rivera and Jake Geoffroy won by forfeit and Chris Hayes won a major decision over Vincent Garguilo at 220 pounds. Brick Memorial also won three matches by decision.


Colts Neck will face top-seeded Jackson Memorial in the semifinal round on Wednesday.
