Lakewood Police Meeting Today to Discuss Controlling Coronavirus Outbreak

Shore News Network

LAKEWOOD-The Lakewood Township Police Department has been fielding calls this week regarding large congregations of people in defiance of the executive order issued by Governor Phil Murphy and guidelines set forth by the CDC, New Jersey Department of Health and the Ocean County Health Department.

Lakewood is currently where the highest density of confirmed coronavirus cases exist in Ocean County and it is believed the unconfirmed number could be much higher.

“Thank you all for your patience and support as many of you have expressed your concern for us while seeking information regarding activities in Lakewood,” said Captain Gregory Staffordsmith of the Lakewood Police Department.  “I can assure you that we are actively and have been proactively addressing these situations since Monday afternoon. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you all but I will be sending out a more detailed release shortly. The Commanders in the agency will be meeting at 1pm to discuss the events thus far and how we will continue to navigate moving forward.”
