Crime Report: Feds Investigating Kate Gibbs for Illegal Campaign Contributions

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Kate Gibbs, a candidate running for U.S. Congress in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District is being investigated by the federal government over donations she made through her labor union, where she serves as an executive-level director.   NJ.com reported on this investigation this week.   In May, Shore News Network uncovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in pay-for-access and pay-for-endorsement campaign donations, including large payments made to the campaign fund of New Jersey Assemblyman Gregory P. McGuckin and John Catalano.  McGuckin has been under fire by his political opponents for his gluttonous quest to amass public jobs in the past six months.  Having nearly 30 jobs wasn’t enough, but the duo also took in large campaign contributions from Gibbs in exchange for influence and and endorsement by the Ocean County GOP.

In her win-at-all cost quest for the seat in CD-3, Gibbs also donated $162,000 to statewide Democrats, even though she is running for office as a Republican.

Now, she’s being investigated for a pay-to-play contribution of $25,000 in a quid-pro-quo arrangement with the New Jersey GOP, in clear violation of the federal government’s $2,800 cap on campaign contributions.

Chris Russell, Gibbs’ campaign manager, who also manages the campaign for big pharma executive Rikin Mehta said the investigation by the federal government is nothing more than a bunch of media malarkey.

Gibbs’ $25,000 payoff to the GOP state party and maxed out contributions to local party elites earned her the verbal nomination in Ocean County and Burlington County.  In Ocean County, she lost that nomination after the rank and file party members overturned the party elites at this year’s nominating convention.

“Kate Gibbs is under investigation by the Federal Election Commission for campaign finance violations, continuing what has been a troubling pattern of lawlessness throughout her adult life,” her opponent David Richter said.  “Kate and her team can try and deflect all they want, but multiple independent sources have now confirmed what our campaign has found, that Kate Gibbs continues to show no respect for obeying the law.  I wish I could say I’m surprised, but this has become par for the course for a candidate with a long history of ignoring the law when it is inconvenient to her.  The law-abiding citizens of the Third District deserve better from their next representative in Congress.”
