SEASIDE PARK, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy has been promoting good health to New Jersey residents since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but a photo shared by the governor this week shows he’s slacking, and not leading by example when it comes to protecting your body from skin damage or even skin cancer.  Skin damage and skin cancer are real risks that threaten anyone who goes outside on a hot summer day.  You have more of a chance of contracting skin cancer later in life by not taking care of your body today.   15,000 people die from skin cancer each year in America and it’s not just the ninety-somethings in nursing homes that are affected by this.

The photo showed Murphy masked up at the Jersey Shore, but with a peeling, blistered, scabbed head from sun damage.

The summer is here and most people will be able to relax and have fun with the kids while on vacation. Most people will head for the beach or participate in outdoor activities. One thing you should never forget is your sun block. Never leave home without proper skin care protection. You know the sun is your skin’s worst enemy. So if you want your skin to maintain a youthful appearance you should always protect it from the UV rays of the sun. Using a naturally moisturizing cream is a great way to prevent age spots.

If you can’t use sunblock on your head, you should consider wearing a hat, along with your Murphy supported facial PPE.  This is especially true if you are bald or partially balding on your head.

The sun emits both UVA and UVB rays which are both harmful to the skin, UVA rays has longer wave length and is able to penetrate the layers of the skin giving the skin the ability to tan. Over exposure to UVA rays can cause ski damage. However UVB rays affect the epidermis (outer layer of the skin). Sun burn is usually as a result of too much exposure to UVB rays.

It is very essential to properly protect your skin from direct sunlight, even though on a cloudy day the sun’s UV rays are also very damaging. Proper sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher is highly recommended.

Skin cancer and skin damage are not your only worries.  Sunspots are an unsightly pigment mutation that can also occur and lead to problems as you age.

When you are out in the sun without proper protection UVA rays penetrate into your skin and the melanin which exists in the skin oxidizes and becomes brown in color. The melanin in the skin is responsible for spots to form after being exposed in the sun for a long period of time. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its color, however,if it is attacked by the sun’s UV rays it will oxidize and form spots.

Using bleaching agents to remove these sun sport or age spots has been very popular, however, these agents contain harsh chemical ingredients that can do further damage to your skin. The best way to prevent age spots from forming is to find a good substance that can inhibit the production of melanin, hence you will not have to deal with age spots and other blemishes caused by exposure to the sun.

A lot of people turn to tanning beds instead of staying in the sun, however, you should learn that tanning beds are also considered to be dangerous as they too emit UV radiations in order to give skin its dark color. Most people claim that since in a tanning bed you can control the amount of radiation that is emitted then it is safer that being in the sun where you have no control on the amount of radiation being emitted.

Learn to prevent age spot and have healthy skin the natural way as this will prevent further skin damage and will also help to prevent additional age spots from returning to your skin.
