BOROUGH PARK, NEW YORK –  An Orthodox Jewish candidate for city council , Harold “Heshy” Tischler was arrested by the New York City Police Department in conjunction with an assault on a Jewish reporter who was covering the religious lockdown protests in Borough Park last week.   Jacob Kornbluh, a reporter for the Jewish Insider was covering the protests and claimed he was assaulted and kicked by members of the Orthodox Jewish community who called him “Nazi” and “Hitler”

Brooklyn’s Republicans and Democrats came together to condemn the vicious assault by the community against Kornbluh.

“As leaders of organizations who don’t normally agree on much, we have come together to speak in one voice condemning the unconscionable violence and threats targeting journalist Jacob Kornbluh,” the Jewish Democratic Council of America and the Republican Jewish Coalition said in a joint statement. “We are unified in our outrage and deep concern about the violence and incitement directed at Jacob for his valuable reporting. We stand together with Jacob, condemn those threatening violence, and call for this upheaval and vilification of a respected journalist to come to an immediate end.”

Tischler said he was notified of his impending arrest hours earlier and declared his innocence.

“I will be turning myself in – I’m not sure yet – I’m thinking maybe let them come get me, but they’re asking me not to cause any issues in Borough Park and Flatbush,” Tischler said. “I did not commit this crime of violence and no one was arrested that night, so I will of course be pleading not guilty,” he said before the arrest. “Yes, they got me finally. I am being arrested on Monday morning by the @NYPD66Pct at 10:00 am for inciting a riot. Pastor Mcall & Jeffry Davis will be taking me in. This comes after asking for peaceful protest with absolute no violence, tweeted.”

Tischler claims the reporter threatened him, saying Kornbluh is a terrible and bad man.
