Official NJ Facebook Page Halloween “Gag” Is Actually a Real Fright

Shore News Network

TOMS RIVER, NJ – On Halloween, the state of New Jersey posted a ‘meant to be funny’ post on its Facebook page with the ‘scariest costume’, a self-service gas pump, but the reality is, pumping gas in New Jersey is pretty frightful.   New Jersey has low gas prices right now as does much of the nation, but as most of the nation is now under $2 per gallon for regular unleaded gas, New Jersey remains among the highest in the country with prices ranging between $2.10 and $2.40 per gallon this week.  That’s because the state has one of the highest gasoline taxes in the country.  According to Gas Buddy, New Jersey is ranked 13th highest per-gallon gasoline price in the country.  That’s because of a 40.2 cent gas tax.  If you removed the New Jersey gas tax completely, your next self-serve fillup would be just $1.68 per gallon.  Now that is something that is actually very scary.
