Surveillance Operation Bags Newark Dealer Selling Drugs in Bear

Bear, DE – The Delaware State Police have arrested 21-year-old Jordan Smith of Newark, DE, for weapon charges following an incident Thursday evening.

On November 12, 2020, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force (GTF) (Delaware State Police & Probation and Parole) conducted surveillance on Jordan Smith after receiving information he was selling illegal drugs. GTF members observed Smith conduct a suspected drug transaction in a parking lot in the area of Rt 40 and Rt 7. GTF members followed Smith to the parking lot of Wawa located at 3601 Wrangle Hill Rd., Bear, and contacted Smith for questioning. Upon contact, Smith was standing outside of his vehicle with the door open. GTF members observed a handgun in plain view in the center console of the vehicle. Smith who is a known person prohibited from possessing a firearm was immediately taken into custody without incident.

Subsequently, Troopers discovered a 9mm handgun loaded with 12 rounds and had an obliterated serial number inside of the vehicle.


Smith was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by Person Prohibited – 2 counts (Felony)
  • Possession of a Weapon with a Removed, Obliterated or Altered Serial Number (Felony)

Smith was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $7,500.00 cash bond.
