Two women suffer serious injuries in Route 72 Crash in Manahawkin

MANAHAWKIN, NJ – On Friday, November 27, 2020, at 10:28 AM, the Stafford Township Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Route 72 at Marsha Drive involving injuries.

A preliminary investigation suggests a 2000 Mazda Miata operated by Brenda Evans, 61 of Manahawkin was stopped in the right lane of travel at a red signal on Route 72 westbound at Marsha Drive. At this time, she was struck in the rear by a 2001 Nissan Altima operated by Alois Krtil, 82 of Ship Bottom, NJ.
After these two vehicles collided, they both struck a 3rd vehicle a 2016 Honda CRV operated by Helen Licker, 75 of Lewes, DE who was stopped in the left lane of Route 72 west also stopped at the red signal.

Evans and Krtil both sustained serious injuries from the collision and were transported by Hackensack Medical & Robert Wood Johnson medevac to Atlantic City Trauma Center for treatment.
Westbound traffic on Route 72 was diverted onto E. Bay Avenue for approximately 1 hour during the investigation.
