Cape Coral Dad, girlfriend dumped car into canal killing two sons

CAPE CORAL, FL – Cape Coral Police Department’s interim Chief Anthony Sizemore announced the arrest of Kenneth Wayne Lawson at 3:00 pm on December 4, 2020. Kenneth Wayne Lawson (W/M, DOB: 5-20-91) was arrested for two counts of DUI Manslaughter after he drove his 2014 white Ford Focus into a canal in the 3100 Block of NE 5th Place on November 25th, 2020 around 11:55 pm. Lawson and his girlfriend Julia Drudy exited the white Ford Focus, leaving Lawson’s two sons in the vehicle.

Lawson’s sons were 7 and 10 years old. Officers and Good Samaritans jumped in the water in an attempt to rescue the boys. The boys were removed from the car but succumbed to their injuries at a later time.

Julia Ann Drudy was unable to be located at the time of Lawson’s arrest. Drudy spoke with officers after seeing the press conference and wanted to turn herself in. Detectives located Drudy at 339 SW 31st Terrace around 7:15 pm. Drudy was arrested and charged with Permitting an Unauthorized Operator to Drive. Drudy will be transported to the Lee County Jail.
