In light of shootings, Highlands Sheriff’s Office to Increase Patrols in Affect Neighborhoods in Avon Park

AVON PARK, FL – In light of recent shootings of teenagers in Avon Park, the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office is increasing patrols.
“We realize this has been a hard week for residents of Avon Park, and we want to send our condolences to the families of the victims of the recent shootings. Nobody should ever have to deal with their child being shot, much less have to bury their teenage son,” the department said.  “In an effort to prevent further violence, we will have increased patrols in the affected neighborhoods in the coming days, using both marked and unmarked units. We will be proactive in trying to keep the streets safe as we continue to investigate these crimes and try to bring those responsible to justice. We have already made one arrest. Tayten Hardy-Clunis, 19, of Avon Park was arrested today in connection with the second shooting. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm or ammo by an adjudicated delinquent felon, and armed burglary of a dwelling.”
