Skeletal remains found in Lake City while searching for missing homeless man

LAKE CITY, FLORIDA – On Thursday, December 3, 2020, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Lake City Police Department responded to the report of a deceased person being located in a wooded area near Levings Forest Products 619 NW Railroad Ave.
Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant who stated he had recently returned to the Lake City area and today was attempting to locate a homeless friend who had been living in the wooded area prior to the complainant leaving Lake City. While searching for his friend, a tent was located that contained the skeletal remains of an unknown individual.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division, along with a Crime Scene Officer from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, took over and processed the scene.
At this time, the race and sex of the deceased is unknown; however, there were no apparent signs of foul play.
