KERSHAW COUNTY, SC –  A registered sex offender with a history of sexual crimes under his belt was caught by deputies in Kershaw County after he kidnapped an 11-year-old girl.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office received a report Monday afternoon of a missing 11-year-old girl who did not return home after school. Within an hour of the call, a KCSO deputy located a wrecked vehicle, a white 2013 Chevrolet Cruze in the area. It was occupied by Charles Dennis Hargett, 63, from Kershaw.

“The missing child was inside the vehicle with Hargett. Hargett appeared to be heavily intoxicated,” the department said.  “Hargett is also a registered sex offender with a history of sexual crime convictions.”

Hargett is currently charged with Kidnapping.  KCSO has a hold on him at the Kershaw County Detention Center for pending charges.

A Kershaw County magistrate denied bond on his charge of Kidnapping. Other charges are still pending.

“The victim is safe at home and seems to be doing well. Please keep her and her family in your prayers,” the department said. “Hopefully, he will remain in KCDC until his day in court.”
