17-year-old shot and killed in broad daylight on Southeast DC street

Washington, DC – A 17-year-old boy was gunned down Saturday afternoon on a residential street in Southeast, marking another deadly shooting involving a juvenile in the District.

Just before 3 p.m., First District officers responded to the 1900 block of C Street SE for reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Tristan Johnson of Southeast DC, was conscious and breathing at the scene.

DC Fire and EMS transported Johnson to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Police have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect.

The area was briefly cordoned off Saturday afternoon as detectives canvassed the neighborhood and processed the scene for evidence. It remains unclear what led up to the shooting, or whether the teen was the intended target.

Johnson’s death adds to a growing list of juvenile victims in the city’s ongoing gun violence crisis. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
