Art of Pysanky: Ukrainian Eggs

Shore News Network

This hands-on, three hour class at the Jackson Branch of the Ocean County Library will introduce you to the historical significance of the art, the materials, and the process to make your own Pysanka egg. This program will take place on Wednesday March 9 at 6:00 pm. Registration is required.

This program will be presented by Jenny Santa Maria, seasoned Pysanky artist who has taught this process all over New Jersey. You will make a beautifully designed egg using traditional materials and a traditional process that uses a wax-resist batik method. This process has stood the test of time for hundreds of years by being passed down to the youngest members of the family.

This program is for adults 18+ only. Registration will begin February 16 and will fill quickly. Supplies will be provided, including the eggs. Please bring an egg carton or container for your egg and a smock or worn shirt.

This program will be held again on Saturday, April 9 from 10:00am – 1:00pm at the Jackson Library. Registration for the April program will begin on March 9. Please be considerate of others and only attend one program so more people have a chance to experience this unique program.

These programs have been made possible through the generous contributions of the Jackson Friends of the Library. Please call 732-928-4400 to register or visit the Ocean County Library’s website to register online at www.theoceancountylibrary.org.
