TOMS RIVER – Ocean County will focus on the requirements and regulations that need to be met by home improvement contractors as the theme of Consumer Protection Week, which begins March 6.

Investigators from the county’s Consumer Affairs office will provide flyers and posters to every construction office in Ocean County. These posters highlight a compliance checklist for contractors and includes information such ensuring the contractor’s Registration Number is displayed prominently and displaying a copy of the commercial general liability insurance for a minimum of $500,000 per occurrence.

“Complaints against home improvement contractors are increasing not only in our county but also in the state,” said Ocean County Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, chairman of the Department of Consumer Affairs. “Being aware of and assuring these steps are taken can help a consumer eliminate potential problems later on.”
