Despite its scenic Jersey Shore beaches, mountain destinations, pinelands and proximity to just about anything in New York and Pennsylvania, a study claims New Jersey isn’t exactly the place you want to stay if you plan on retiring in the near or distant future.

Based on affordability, quality of life and healthcare, a new report suggests only Kentucky is a worse place to retire than New Jersey.

The report by Wallethub ranks all 50 states from best to worst for retirement options.

Florida (1), Colorado (2) and South Dakota ranked the highest while Rhode Island (48), New Jersey (49) and Kentucky (50) ranked at the bottom.

New Jersey was ranked at the bottom of the list as far as affordability, beating out the ultra-expensive island state of Hawaii.
