Berkeley Township Getting Multipurpose Turf Field for Youth Programs

Berkeley Township has received approval from the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Green Acres Program for a grant of $750,000 for the installation of an all-purpose turf field at Veterans Park.

Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato announces new turf field for youth sports.

“We received preliminary approval last summer, pending Legislative approval,” said Mayor Carmen Amato. “That was done late last year. We received the paperwork from the State last week.”

The Berkeley council approved the field’s authorization at last night’s town council meeting.

The Turf field will be installed at the Sam Pepe Memorial Stadium at Veterans Park. The field will be lined for Football, Soccer and Lacrosse.

This site was chosen because it has lights and stadium seating.

“I’m excited for our children,” Amato said.  “This will move our programs to the next level and provide a state of the art maintenance free field. Because of it’s close proximity to Central Regional, they will also be able to utilize it as well.”

The Field will be purchased directly from FieldTurf through the Keystone Purchasing Network.  The total cost of the field will be about $800,000 plus soft costs.

“We are looking forward to breaking ground very soon with the hopes to get it ready for the 2018 fall sports season,” Amato added. “We are excited to provide this great opportunity for our children.”
