Man Struck by Vehicle in Shop Rite Parking Lot

– On Saturday, July 21, 2018, at approximately 1:10 pm, officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the Manchester Shop Rite located at 1001 Route 70 for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a struck pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male, later identified as 65-year-old, Daniel Orpel, of Manchester with non-life threatening injuries in the parking lot as well as a 2013 Honda Civic with minor front end damage. The investigation revealed that Orpel was pushing a shopping cart through the parking lot when the Honda which was being driven by 80-year-old, Patricia O’Neill of Manchester made a wide left hand turn into a parking aisle. Upon doing so, O’Neill struck Orpel’s shopping cart which caused him to be thrown to the ground. Orpel was transported by Quality Medical Transport to Community Medical Center where he was treated for the complaint of neck, back and hip pain. O’Neill was uninjured in the crash.

This crash is currently being investigated by Ptl. Anderson of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
