TOMS RIVER-The annual Toms River Halloween Parade in Downtown Toms River was briefly paused after 80-year-old Harold Oswald of Willow Grove was thrown from a cart he was driving in the parade and suffered a skull fracture.

According to Toms River Police Department spokeswoman Jill Messina, Oswald was operating a miniature gas-powered cart along the parade route. While performing various maneuvers in the roadway, Mr. Oswald lost control of the cart, causing it to tip.

Messina said Oswald was thrown from the cart and struck his head on the pavement.

He was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.
