Oops! Cop Forgets to Put Car in Park, Gets Hit by Oncoming Train

ALBUQUERQUE NEW MEXICO - OCTOBER 9 2016: Passengers wait to present their tickets for boarding the Southwest Chief Amtrak train to Los Angeles California at the station in Albuquerque New Mexico.

LONG BRANCH- Oopsies!  That’s what the Long Branch Police Department said today after an officer processing a motor vehicle stop forgot to make sure his car was in park lost his cruiser to an oncoming train.

“This morning at approximately 10:53 am one of our officers was backing up another officer on a motor vehicle stop on Brighton Avenue. When he exited the vehicle to assist the primary officer, his vehicle began to roll forward, unnoticed. The officer reported after the fact that he remembered having trouble getting it into park, but felt that he did before he exited the vehicle,” the department said in a release. “It rolled down a small grass embankment and came to stop with the front end extended slightly onto the railroad tracks. As luck would have it, a train was coming and struck the police car. Fortunately, no one was injured, except for some feelings. NJ Transit Police are in charge of the investigation.”

Fortunately, there were no injuries in the mishap.
