“This morning at approximately 10:53 am one of our officers was backing up another officer on a motor vehicle stop on Brighton Avenue. When he exited the vehicle to assist the primary officer, his vehicle began to roll forward, unnoticed. The officer reported after the fact that he remembered having trouble getting it into park, but felt that he did before he exited the vehicle,” the department said in a release. “It rolled down a small grass embankment and came to stop with the front end extended slightly onto the railroad tracks. As luck would have it, a train was coming and struck the police car. Fortunately, no one was injured, except for some feelings. NJ Transit Police are in charge of the investigation.”
