New Assistant CMO for Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Kim Carpenter, M.D., FAAFP, CTHQS, recently announced that Board Certified Nephrologist Arif Asif, M.D., MHCM, has been appointed assistant chief medical officer. Dr. Asif will continue as chair of the Department of Medicine for the academic medical center, a role he has held for the past three years.

“Dr. Asif has been an essential part of the medical leadership team over the years and made significant contributions to the growth of Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s world-class academic and research programs,” said Dr. Carpenter. “We look forward to his ongoing efforts to enhance patient care, advance clinical processes, continue the development of our medical education programs, mentor medical faculty and resident physicians and provide support and administration of the medical staff.”

Dr. Asif completed his medical residency training in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, Chicago, IL, and fellowship training in Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Miami, FL. He received his medical doctorate from Punjab Medical College. Dr. Asif has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Health Care Management (MHCM) from Harvard University.


Prior to joining JSUMC, Dr. Asif served as Chief of Nephrology and Hypertension and Professor of Medicine at Albany Medical College, NY, and Chief of Interventional Nephrology at the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine, FL. He has received multiple leadership, mentorship and teaching awards and served as the President of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology.
