Berkeley Mayor Amato, Council Oppose Murphy’s Removal of Religious Exemptions for Vaccines

BERKELEY-Mayor Carmen Amato and the Berkeley Township council oppose New Jersey Democrat legislation to remove religious exemptions for vaccinating children.

Amato said the bill which will lead to widespread mandatory immunizations takes the decision making process out of the hands of pediatricians and family and is a clear example of government overstepping.

The law, S2173/A3813 will strip parents, guardians and healthcare professionals of their rights to protect children for whom they are responsible, the council said.

Amato worries that the new law could lead to mandatory immunizations that are dictated by business rather than medical decisions.
