Toms River Man Arrested for DUI Twice in One Week

On Thursday February 6, 2020 at approximately 11:54 AM police units were dispatched to the intersection of Mount Lane and Vincent Street for reports of a motor vehicle accident. Samual Kovacsy, 42 of Toms River, was travelling eastbound on Mount Lane approaching the intersection of Vincent Street when he failed to stop for the stop sign. He continued travelling straight across Vincent Street striking bricks that were lining a property before hitting a tree and coming to rest. Mr. Kovacsy was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and issued summons for Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Failing to Stop for a Posted Stop Sign, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, along with additional summons.

On Saturday February 8, 2020 at approximately 12:33 PM police units were called to the intersection of Hooper Ave and Church Road for reports of a motor vehicle accident. Samual Kovacsy, 42 of Toms River, was travelling westbound on Kettle Creek Road crossing Hooper Ave. As his vehicle approached Silverton Funeral Home he ran off the road striking a curb, a Speed Limit sign, the entrance sign to the funeral home, a parked vehicle, and then coming to rest after hitting a tree on the property. Mr. Kovacsy was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and issued summons for Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, along with additional summons.

The accidents are being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer PJ Gambardella.
