TOMS RIVER- The number of daily coronavirus cases in Ocean County took a large dip on Friday, according to the Ocean County County Health Department, dropping under 150 new cases per day for the first time in over a week.  In Lakewood, 1,015 cases have been confirmed.  To date, 121 have died from the disease in Ocean County.

Toms River is second behind Lakewood with 541 cases.   The daily figures released by the county do not necessarily indicate trends in infections, just trends in confirmed and reported infections.

Statewide, instead of focusing first on new cases and total, Governor Phil Murphy announced that 682 patients hospitalized for the disease have been discharged to date from the hospital.

Cases continue to stream in across the state however as 3,627 new positive cases were reported, bringing New Jersey’s total to 54,588.

“We’ve lost another 233 New Jerseyans to COVID-19, bringing our total to 1,932 deaths,” Murphy said.

As of 10:00 PM last night, 7,570 residents were hospitalized, including COVID-19 positive patients and persons under investigations. 1,679 individuals are considered critical care and 1,663 individuals are currently on ventilators.
