TAMPA BAY, FL – The Tampa Bay Rays kicked off the 2020 Major League Baseball season by calling for the arrest of police officers involved in the killing of Breona Taylor.

“Today is Opening Day, which means it’s a great day to arrest the killers of Breonna Taylor,” the official Twitter page for the team posted.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said in an interview that he called Rays’ President Matt Silverman and threatened to withdraw his officers from providing security for the team.

“To turn a baseball event into a political event is uncalled for,” Gualtieri said. “It’s just wrong, and it’s improper. It’s just reckless. It’s throwing gasoline on the fire, and it didn’t need to happen…they don’t know all of the facts.”
