Maple Shade, NJ (10/06/2020) – Two affordable housing nonprofits, Habitat for Humanity of Burlington and Mercer Counties and Atlantic County Habitat for Humanity, have merged. The organizations have joined to make a greater impact on affordable housing options as they serve over 1.1 Million residents in 75 municipalities through Affordable Homeownership and Neighborhood Revitalization programs. Habitat BMC also operates a total of 3 ReStores, one in each county of its newly expanded service area: Maple Shade in Burlington, Hamilton in Mercer, and Egg Harbor Township in Atlantic.
The merger could not have come at a more crucial time. Low-income families need a safe place to call home now more than ever, and the combination of each affiliate’s dedicated volunteers, supporters, and leaders will allow Habitat to continue building homes, community, and hope. Amanda McGowan, AC Habitat’s Executive Director, will now serve as Atlantic County’s Regional Program Director and support organization functions alongside Chief Executive Officer, Lori Leonard.
Together with dedicated staff and volunteers, Habitat BMC will progress on 13 homeownership projects in Hightstown, Princeton, Hamilton, Springfield, Palmyra, Hainesport, and Mays Landing. Numerous repair projects are also underway from river to shoreline, including Neighborhood Preservation Program partnerships with Mt. Holly and Burlington City, as well as a month long “Preserve Palmyra” repair event.
