Shore News Network

BERKELEY TWP, NJ – Berkeley Township Elementary School will be closed for in-person learning for the remainder of this week after reports of COVID-19 positive within the school earlier.  The letter below was sent by Berkeley Township Superintendent James Roselli on Wednesday:

As a result of additional COVID-19 cases identified within the Berkeley Township Elementary School, BTES will be closed on Thursday, October 15, 2020 and Friday, October 16, 2020 for in-person learning. This decision was made working in coordination with the Ocean County Department of Health. Students will switch to remote learning for those two days. This temporary closure will allow us to gain a better understanding of the COVID-19 situation impacting the school and perform contact tracing.

The health and safety of our students, staff and community are of the utmost importance. We are working closely with the Department of Health as they conduct a thorough investigation. During this time we will also be completing a deep cleaning of the entire school. The school is also taking precautions to prevent the introduction and spread of viruses and other germs and is cleaning frequently touched surfaces daily. The status of this situation is fluid, and we are monitoring it closely.

There is nothing you need to do at this time. Please note that anyone identified to be in close contact with the individuals has already been notified personally prior to this letter.

We understand the level of concern regarding COVID-19. We encourage parents and students to continue following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention promoted safeguards, such as:

Staying home when you are sick
Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds
Practicing social distancing
Wearing a mask

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your building principal.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this challenging time.
