Baltimore Police Arrest Two Shooting Suspects

On August 27, 2020, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Western District officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Cumberland Street to investigate a fight involving a subject armed with a gun. The altercation was observed by a City-Watch camera operator.
When officers arrived at the location, individuals scatted and ran from the scene. A short time later, a 32 year-old male seeking treatment walked into an area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Western District-Shooting detectives assumed control of the investigation and determined the shooting occurred during the altercation in the 600 block of Cumberland Street.
Through the course of their investigation detectives were able to identify two suspects.
On October 19, 2020, Warrant Apprehension Task-Force detectives arrested the second of the two suspects, 24 year-old Jonathan Kandakai of the 2800 block of Parkwood Avenue.
Jonathan Kandakai was transported to the Baltimore City Central Booking Intake Facility and formally charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Firearm use/ Felony violent crime, as well as other related weapons and assault charges.
30 year-old Rodney Smith of the 1500 block of N. Stricker Street had been arrested and charged as an accessory on August 31, 2020.
