SAN  JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA – On Thursday, shortly after 2:30 am, the San Joaquin County Sheriffs Department investigated a carjacking incident in Acampo.
The victim had been sleeping in his vehicle on Acampo Road, west of Elliott Road, when a stranger who opened the car door and pointed a shotgun at him woke him up. The suspect, described as a heavy-set Hispanic male in his 20’s, took off with the victim’s car followed by a second vehicle that the victim could not see clearly.
“Approximately 5 hours later, while patrolling in the area of Lower Sacramento Road and Jahant Road in Acampo, CHP came across the victim’s vehicle parked on the side of the road. A check of the license plate came back to a stolen vehicle reported out of our office,” the department said. “Salvador DeJesus Collazo, 28, was found sleeping in the driver’s seat with a loaded shotgun sitting next to him on the passenger seat. Collazo was detained and our office was notified.”
During a pat-down search of Collazo, he was found with methamphetamine in his pant pockets, along with the victim’s identification card, driver’s license and credit cards. Drug paraphernalia was found in the victim’s vehicle, all belonging to Collazo.
Collazo was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for several felony violations, including: carjacking, possession of a stolen vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of live ammunition and for being in possession of methamphetamine.
