One Shot Dead, Two Wounded in Bizarre Morongo Basin Shooting

MORONGO BASIN, CA – On Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 1:54 p.m. deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to the Sunever Rd. residence following a call of a shooting. Deputies and medical aid arrived and found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Gene Weller and Dondi Moore were transported to a local hospital and Geri Weller was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide Detectives responded to conduct the investigation. Detectives determined Teri heard a shot inside the house and found Geri suffering from a gunshot wound. Teri saw Gene in the room, armed with a handgun and she wrestled the gun from him. Moments later, Dondi entered the house and warned Teri that Gene had armed himself with a second handgun. Almost immediately Gene shot Dondi, and then Teri, fearing for her safety, shot Gene.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Gene remains hospitalized in critical condition. Dondi is also hospitalized and is expected to survive.
