Teen Shot Multiple Times Outside of Yale Campus

NEW HAVEN, CT – A 17-year-old New Haven teen remains hospitalized after being shot last night. The incident happened downtown on Crown Street near Park Street.
At approximately 10:12 p.m., Yale University Police Department detectives heard gunfire and notified police dispatch. Yale plainclothes personnel quickly determined the location of the gunfire and found a 29-year-old man holding a handgun as he stood on Crown Street.
As officers were arriving, the 17-year-old was pulled into a parked car and driven away. Yale detectives detained the gunman and notified police dispatch of a gunshot victim leaving the scene in a private vehicle.
A short time later, the 17-year-old was dropped off by private vehicle at Yale New Haven Hospital. The teenage male had multiple gunshot wounds. As of Saturday afternoon, he remains hospitalized in stable condition.
New Haven detectives responded to the hospital and Crown Street. Preliminary indications are the 29-year-old man shot the 17-year-old.
Investigators seized the handgun of the 29-year-old. At the scene, detectives also seized a facsimile firearm, which in this incident was a realistic-looking BB gun believed to have been possessed by the 17-year-old.
New Haven officers held a crime scene for several hours. After a coordinated investigation by New Haven and Yale police departments, the detained man and the crime scene were released.
