Collier County Deputies will now start giving fart can tickets

COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA – Think your fart can on your 2010 Honda Civic is cool?  Well, you’re about the only one who thinks so and the Collier County Sheriff’s Department is also not impressed with your rice-burner’s ability to go ‘vroom, vroom”.
“Deputies with our Safety & Traffic Enforcement Bureau have received numerous complaints about vehicles on our roadways with loud or modified exhausts,” the department said. “We’re taking a proactive approach to these complaints by educating the public by stopping vehicles whose exhausts sound as if they’ve been modified. Drivers who have altered their vehicles for this purpose, can be fined $113.”
Florida State Statute 316.293 addresses the problem of altered exhausts. The statute reads: “No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.”
‘Last night, we made a stop on one such vehicle pictured here,” the department said.
