Toms River sees all-time high COVID-19 positive cases, 11 dead over weekend in Ocean County

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Ocean County Health Department on Sunday reported 393 new COVID-19 positive cases in just one day, one of the highest days on record in the county.  Also over the weekend, the department reported 11 deaths.    Toms River led Ocean County with 77 new cases followed by Lakewood with 61, Brick with 59 and Jackson with 31 new cases.  In the past 7 days, 1,698 new cases were reported across the county.  Health officials in New Jersey are expecting a post-Thanksgiving weekend spike in COVID-19 in the coming days.   Testing in Ocean County has also increased significantly over the past 14 days, according to data on file with the Ocean County Health Department.  In Ocean County, 51% of all COVID-19 deaths have been related to long term care facilities according to the health department.
