EDGEWOOD, WA –  Ammo, a K-9 deputy with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office assisted his fellow deputies in apprehending a man who hid in an attic during a domestic disturbance dispute in Edgewood.

On Friday, December 4, 2020, our deputies with the Edgewood Police Department responded to a 911 call from a person who reported hearing yelling at a residence on 8th St. E. in the City of Edgewood, and was concerned that there was a domestic violence incident in progress.

As deputies were en route to the scene, they were notified by dispatchers that a male associated with the residence had a no bail warrant for his arrest for Domestic Violence Assault in 2nd degree and Assault in the 4th degree.
When the first two deputies arrived at the home, they looked through a hole in the door and observed the wanted suspect inside the home. The deputies ordered the suspect to exit the home but he refused; one of the deputies looked through a bedroom window and saw the suspect climb on top of a washing machine and then disappear out of view.

As additional units – including K9 Ammo and his handler – responded to the scene, deputies made multiple announcements for the occupants to come out of the home. Deputies kicked the door open and removed two males and a female from the residence, who confirmed that the suspect had crawled up into the attic space.

Deputies continued to yell at the suspect to come out and warned that K9 Ammo would be released to search for him. When the suspect did not answer, deputies used an axe to enlarge the access point to attic so K9 Ammo and his handler could get through.

K9 Ammo was boosted up into the attic and quickly the suspect laying across several boards. The suspect later told deputies that he did not come out of the house because he was sleeping in the attic.

The 25-year-old male suspect was treated for minor contact wounds and then booked into the Pierce County Jail for the felony domestic violence assault warrants, as well as a DUI warrant and a new charge of Resisting Arrest.
