CONTRA COSTA CO., CA – On December 8, 2020, at approximately 1:25 PM, a victim called 9-1-1 to report she was driving on SR-4 near Somersville Road in Contra Costa County when she was involved in a minor traffic collision. The victim exited her vehicle and made contact with the driver of the other vehicle. The other driver displayed a firearm and threatened the victim. A passenger remained inside the vehicle.

The suspect then re-entered his vehicle and as he drove away, fired at least one round, striking the victim’s vehicle. A .40 caliber spent casing was located at the scene. Officers assigned to CHP-Contra Costa Area responded to the scene and began the initial investigation. CHP’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) responded to the scene and took the lead in the investigation.

Detectives identified the suspect’s vehicle. Shortly after, the Antioch Police Department located the suspect’s wanted vehicle and detained the driver, later identified as 20-year-old Jamario Bibb of Oakland, and a passenger, identified as 24-year-old Deanta Newsom of Antioch. Newsom is the registered owner of the suspect vehicle. CHP Officers assigned to the Contra Costa Area and CHP Detectives assigned to SIU responded to take custody of Bibb and Newsom. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .40 caliber pistol with an extended magazine, missing one round from full capacity. During the interrogation of Bibb, he confessed to the shooting.
