VERO LAKE ESTATES, FL – Two teenagers will now face trial as adults after shooting an Indian River man who came out to confront them while they were burglarizing his car in front of his home.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, on November 24, 2019, Zachary Music and Noah Oberbeck committed multiple auto burglaries within the Vero Lake Estates community, during which they stole a Glock 43, 9mm handgun. The firearm was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. During the course of a subsequent auto burglary, they were confronted by a property owner and shot him with the stolen firearm. Both Music and Oberbeck are awaiting trial and were charged as adults with attempted murder. The firearm used was not recovered.

During the month of November 2020, detectives with the Special Investigations Unit conducted a drug investigation in which crack cocaine was purchased from two subjects, Quaniesha Bynum and Deonte Bynum. As a result, arrest warrants and a search warrant for their residence was secured. On December 10, 2020, the search warrant was executed by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team. Quaniesha Bynum was located and arrested on scene for sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine, and child neglect. Deonte Bynum is still outstanding and has active arrest warrants for the sale and possession of cocaine.

During a search of the residence, four firearms were recovered along with a small amount of cocaine. Three, unsupervised juveniles were located inside the home in proximity to the firearms and illegal drugs. Two of the three were on juvenile probation for prior weapon and drug charges. One of the recovered firearms was the stolen, Glock 43 used by Music and Oberbeck in the November shooting.

“This should serve as an example of the unintended consequences of leaving firearms in vehicles, especially unsecured vehicles,” the department said.

Since November 23, 2020, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has taken reports in which eight firearms were stolen from vehicles; in every instance, the vehicles were left unlocked.

Since December 1, 2020, 38 auto burglaries have been reported. Please properly secure your firearms and remember to lock your car doors.
