BAY CITY, TX – On Sunday, December 13, 2020, at approximately 4:23 a.m., while Corporal Marino Chavez was on duty in the area of Roberts Road, he heard what he believed to be multiple gun shots. He notified dispatch and questioned whether they had received any calls. Dispatch notified him they were receiving calls from the area of 1521 Whitson. Corporal Chavez notified dispatch he was only a couple of blocks away and would be en-route to that location.

As Corporal Chavez turned onto Whitson, he observed several vehicles driving away. He was flagged down and notified that there was a man who needed help. Corporal Chavez was directed to a subject laying on the ground later identified as Terrance Williams. There were two subjects conducting CPR on Terrance. Corporal Chavez notified dispatch of the situation and took over performing CPR. Officers continued CPR until EMS arrived and took over.

While EMS was with Williams another disturbance broke out and officers had to separate the subjects. At that time, they were notified one of the subjects in the second altercation had been shot during the first altercation. Officers observed a second victim to be bleeding from his leg. The second victim refused treatment by EMS and was transported to a hospital by private vehicle.

Detectives were notified to make location. They were later notified that Terrance was deceased. The second victim was treated and released from the hospital. This case is still under investigation while Detectives are conducting interviews. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective Stephen Lunsford or Sgt. Chris Hadash.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Avenue D in reference to a subject that had been shot. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who was bleeding from his shoulder area. Officers began applying pressure to the wound until EMS arrived.

The victim stated he was sitting in a vehicle in the driveway when someone in a black car drove by and fired a shot that struck him. The victim was transported to Matagorda Regional by EMS and was later transported to Houston. Due to patient confidentiality, the hospital will not release an updated patient status.

At this time, it does not appear that these cases are related. Anyone with information on this second case is asked to contact Detective Corporal Robert Pierce or Sgt. Chris Hadash. Detectives can be reached at 979-245-8500.
