FAIRFAX, VA –  A Fairfax police officer was injured after he stopped his patrol car to investigate a suspicious vehicle that was stopped along the road.  As he returned to his car to turn on his safety lights, a drunk driver sped into the officer’s vehicle.

According to police, just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning one of our officers found a car that was stopped in the roadway in the 5800 block of Backlick Road in Springfield. Our officer turned on his emergency lights to check on the driver. As the officer got back into his car, a suspected drunk driver rear-ended him, causing his cruiser to hit the car in front of him. The officer and the suspected drunk driver were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspected drunk driver was arrested.
