OWEGO, NY – While driving through Owego during this week’s winter storm, a man’s car broke down on the side of the road. Passing snow plows covered his car completely in a mountain of snow and he wasn’t able to get out. Despite making numerous 9-1-1 calls, police were unable to locate the vehicle because it was covered completely in snow.
On Thursday morning New York State Trooper Sergeant Jason Cawley went out looking. Sgt. Cawley learned Tioga County had received a number of 911 calls for a driver who ran off the road and needed assistance but had not been located.
Sgt. Cawley drove to the section of State Route 17C in the town of Owego, but also did not find the driver. While patrolling, Cawley saw what appeared to be a row of mailboxes and waded through the snow to check the addresses.
