Teen is 163rd murder this year in Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH – A 17-year-old shot dead in the streets of Columbus on Wednesday is the 163rd murder in the city so far in 2020.  On December 16, 2020, at 9:28 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Deewood Loop and Deewood Dr. on shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers located what they believed was the scene of the incident in the rear of 6193 Deewood Loop W. At 9:36 pm, officers were dispatched to St. Ann’s Hospital on two walk-in gunshot victims that were self-transported.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that these victims came from the area of the Deewood shooting incident.  One victim, 17-year-old Major Harris III, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced at 10:31 pm.

The second victim, an 18-year-old Deacon Smith, was transported to Mt. Carmel East Hospital for treatment, where he is expected to recover from his injuries. The motive behind this incident is still unclear at this time.
