BALTIMORE, MD. — Over the weekend, Mayor Scott and Police Commissioner Michael Harrison learned of the death of Ms. Katiza Melette, a beloved civilian employee of the Baltimore Police Department who died as a result of complications due to COVID-19.
Ms. Melette was an office support specialist who has worked for the BPD for the past 24 years, and was assigned to the Southern District for the past 20 years.
Ms. Melette served the BPD and provided administrative support to the Southern District with dedication and distinction, and served as a model public servant throughout her career.
Mayor Scott said, “Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn the loss of Ms. Melette, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. This loss demonstrates that all of us continue to be vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is imperative that we continue to be diligent and vigilant in following public health guidelines that are designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
