VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Early Tuesday morning, calls were made to 9-1-1 reporting a tractor-trailer crashing into the water below the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.  Photos taken by the Virginia Beach Fire Department show a corner of the submerged trailer sticking out of the frigid water.   According to the VBFD, on Tuesday at around 8L26 a.m., the Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to a reported of a tractor-trailer going over the bridge of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.  Units arrived on the scene and found a vehicle floating in the water.  Information received from bystanders on the scene stated that a 20-foot box truck was traveling northbound just before the second island and was seen going into the water. Virginia Beach Fire, Virginia Beach Police, and Virginia Beach EMS are working together with the US Coast Guard and Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Authority searching for one patient that might still be in the water. The VBFD said more information will be sent out as it becomes available.
