WALTON COUNTY, FL – Earlier today the Walton County Sheriff’s Office was asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 88-year-old from DeFuniak Springs. On December 28, 2020, Sonny “Jack” Harrell was reported missing by his daughter. Harrell’s daughter was contacted by a friend of Mr. Harrell’s who advised they had not seen him since late November and a friend has been feeding the cats. Mr. Harrell’s trailer, located on Bartlet Road, was padlocked from the outside and does not have electricity.
“Typically, when it gets cold Mr. Harrell goes and stays with a friend for a few days,” deputies thought. “That’s what we’re hoping has happened and just want to ensure the safety and well-being of Mr. Harrell.”
Later in the day, the office announced they had found Harrell’s body.
“WCSO regrets to announce Mr. Harrell’s body has been located not far from his home,” the department said in a statement. “We would also like to say those who knew him understood he chose to live his life “off-the-grid” and mostly kept to himself. Our job is not to judge, but to assist family and friends in finding closure.”
