STUART, FL –  The Martin County Sheriff’s Department has charged two for possession of drugs in “trafficking amounts”.  Police charged both the passenger and driver for trafficking cocaine.

A Stuart woman wanted for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm is facing even more charges after fleeing from deputies who were trying to pull her over.

Detectives recognized the vehicle 27-year old Brittney Josey was driving along Kanner Highway when they initiated a traffic stop. Josey, who had a passenger in the car, refused to pull over and took off prompting a brief pursuit. Deputies were able to safely stop the vehicle using a VIT (Vehicle Intervention Maneuver). Once stopped, deputies found trafficking amounts of crack and powder cocaine in the center console between Josey and her passenger.

Deputies believed the crack cocaine was recently manufactured. Josey said she never saw the drugs and didn’t know they were next to her. Her passenger, 37-year old Trevontay Daniels of Stuart, also claimed he didn’t notice drugs next to him. He was charged with trafficking in cocaine.

In addition to charges stemming from her warrant, Brittany Josey was charged with trafficking in cocaine and fleeing and eluding.

Last year, 224 people overdosed in Martin County. Of those drug overdoses, 40-people died.

Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives continue to take an assertive stance on removing dangerous and addictive narcotics from our streets in hopes of reducing those numbers.
