Man shot dead at candlelight vigil in Gaithersburg

GAITHERSBURG, MD – The Montgomery County Sheriffs Department has reported a shooting at a candlelight vigil on South Frederick Avenue.

Police are investigating the homicide of an adult male that occurred outside of an apartment building in the unit block of S Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg this evening.
Earlier today, police were made aware of a candlelight vigil that was to occur in the unit block of S Frederick Avenue at approximately 4:00 p.m.

At approximately 6:11 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call for the report of a shooting that had just occurred in front of a building near where the candlelight vigil was taking place. Officers from both the Gaithersburg Police Department and MCP – 6th District responded and located an adult male victim suffering from trauma. The male victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.


The victim will be identified once family notifications have been made.

This investigation is continuing and detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division urge anyone who may have information to contact them at 240-773-5070.
