OAKLAND, CA – Robberies, including armed robberies and robberies involving an assault, are on the rise in Oakland and police don’t have many answers for residents.  The Oakland Police Department is telling residents to not resist and to reduce their risks of being robbed.

“We continue to see an increase in robberies in Oakland. In most cases, the victims are alone and either walking to or from home, sitting in their vehicles, or loading/unloading groceries,
the department said. “As part of our commitment to our community, we want to provide you with some tips to reduce your risk of being a victim. If you are confronted by an individual, don’t resist. Hand over your items. Remember: Objects can be replaced; your life cannot.”

The department has launched an initiative called OPDCARES.

“#OPDCARES initiative is about working together as a community to help stop the tragic loss of life and reduce the level of violence in our city. Collectively, we want to ensure Oaklanders and our visitors are safe in our community,” the department said.
