ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Police Department arrested Joshua Vigil, 29 for multiple crimes against children.

In early January, APD’s CACU was notified of a tip from the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office, Internet Crimes Against Children Division. The suspect, Joshua Vigil, was identified along with the location of a video depicting a child being sexually exploited in the Albuquerque area.

Upon a visit to Vigil’s home, investigators verified several materials that matched Child Sexual Abuse material, and after obtaining a warrant, they recovered several items of evidentiary value.

Investigators also were able to identify and locate the child in the video to ensure their safety.

On January 26, Vigil was arrested without incident and was charged with Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor (1st Degree), Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor (2nd Degree), three counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child (2nd Degree Manufacturing) and Sexual Exploitation of a Child (Possession).

“This multi-agency effort lead to the swift arrest of a dangerous offender,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “No one should ever get away with harming children in our community and I’m incredibly thankful for our Albuquerque Police officers and our local partners who worked diligently to protect the child in this case.”

This arrest is the result of a working collaboration between the Albuquerque Police Department and multiple agencies to include the U.S. Attorney General’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the U.S, Marshals Service, the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of Inspector General Department of Health and Human Services, and Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers.
