Madera Police Seeking Family of WWII Vet Whose Grave Marker Was Found Broken in a Field

MADERA, CA -Police in Madera have found the remains of a grave marker belonging to a World War II veteran in a field.  Now, they are hoping to notify the family of the former U.S. Army Sergeant. The department says it is now working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to find the family.

We are asking for the publics’ help to locate the family of Ray Kope or Kopeland,” the Madera Police Department said. “Officers recovered what appears to be his headstone/memorial marker in an open field in town. The headstone/memorial marker is damaged and it appears it was removed from a gravesite or other location. We would like to return the headstone/memorial marker to its correct location and or to the family. Please contact us at (559) 675-4220.”
