New Jersey Mom Charged for Murder of 4-year-old Son

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, N.J. – A South Bound Brook mom has been arrested and charged for the murder of her own child, 4-year-old Aiden Singhania. Police here said they received a 9-1-1 call from Elina Gutti, 38 from her residence on Cedar Street.  Gutti claimed she had unexplained lacerations on her wrist.

Upon investigating the claim, police searched Gutti’s home and found young Aiden in a first-floor bedroom with severe lacerations over his body.  Gutti was treated at the scene, but EMT’s and officers attempted to treat the boy, but were unsuccessful, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now, Gutti is being charged for the murder.


The Somerset Prosecutor’s Office has issued the following statement:

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and South Bound Brook Chief of Police Jeffrey M. Titus announced the arrest of Elina Gutti, age 38, of Cedar Street, South Bound Brook, New Jersey who is charged with the homicide death of her son identified as Aiden Singhania, age 4, Cedar Street, South Bound Brook, New Jersey.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on February 6, 2021, at approximately 2:28 a.m., South Bound Brook Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from Elina Gutti reporting she had unexplained injuries on her wrist. Upon responding, officers located Ms. Gutti with injuries to her left wrist which subsequently required minor medical treatment. Upon further assessment, officers located a 4 year old boy with severe lacerations in the child’s first floor bedroom of the residence. Responding Officers along with Emergency medical personnel attempted life saving measures. The 4 year old, Aiden Singhania was pronounced deceased at 3:17 a.m. at the scene. Ms. Gutti was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation by South Bound Brook Police.

Detectives from Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to conduct an investigation. A post-mortem examination will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

As a result of this investigation, defendant Elina Gutti was arrested and charged with 1st degree Murder, 3rd degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and 4th degree Unlawful Possession of a Knife. Defendant Gutti will be transported to the Somerset County Jail once released from the hospital pending a bail detention hearing.
